....and it's Jeep Week.

I wondered why, when I stopped in Monticello, and was talking to a young guy and mentioned I was heading to Moab, he asked if I was going to do (Something) Jeeps. I was like "What's that? A Jeep Tour? I don't think so. The most extravagant thing I'll be spending my money on is a shower." And he says (with pride, I believe). "It's when you rent a Jeep and drive up onto he Arches!"

Then, as I am heading into Moab, and I start to see..... a LOT of Jeeps. All testosteroned out, with pumped up tires, shaved down torsos, and gravelly sounding belches of gas... It dawns on me.

Lordy, lordy.

Hmmm...

Well, I am staying the night, parked alongside the road. Tomorrow is an errand day and I was thinking of going to Arches NP on Sunday. But I don't know if I can take this. It's like being in the County Fair but in some sort of strange dream.

And I haven't yet stepped out of the van.

I'm guessing Moab isn't usually such a carnival?

There is enough Rock and BLM land around there to get away from any crowd. Just take a second with a map. I'm sure you can find some worthwhile territory away from the jeeps. Have fun

Colorado Nt Monument, this morning;

Arches, an hour or so ago, oops, didn't download those yet, and camera is in the car. Instead, here is a friend at the base of Rock Lobster, couple of weeks ago.

Jeep week has its advantages.

I went about 20 miles out a FWD road in my 2WD truck and picked the wrong way at the fork straight into a wash a couple of years ago. It didn't take long for the nicest retired folks ever from Michigan to meander through with their winch-weilding monster jeep and extract me.

I tossed a dozen eggs all over the upholstered back (sleeping area) of my truck on the same excursion and destroyed some motel towels fixing it. I turned them into the cleaning lady and asked what I owed, and she just laughed and asked if that was the worst I had to show her. No charge for the towels.

Just don't try for dinner in a time pinch or expect to get a cheap motel room.
